Judas sat at the table with Christ and still reached for the bag. None of them was ignorant. All of them were warned.
Scripture is full of people who saw the wreckage coming and walked into it with eyes wide open. Stuck on Stupid gives that pattern its true name - not ignorance, not weakness, but kabed, the Hebrew word for a heart grown too heavy to be moved by what it already knows. This is the theology of willful self-destruction: the biblical study of a soul, or an institution, that has received a genuine word from God, understands exactly what refusing it will cost, and moves toward its own ruin anyway.
In twenty chapters of exegesis written for the academy, the pulpit, and the pew alike, Rev. Dr. Billy J. Hill traces this diagnosable hardness through Scripture's most tragic figures - and then turns the diagnosis on the contemporary church: congregations closing with the lights still on, control-hoarding boards, sanctuaries that no longer fear God, doctrine without repentance. It is an unflinching book. But it does not end in despair. It ends where mercy meets the wreckage honestly - and refuses to give up on the heart that can still be softened.
The warning was never the point. The turning is.
