It was graduation night.
June 6, 1992. Suzie Streeter and Stacy McCall had just graduated from Kickapoo High School in Springfield, Missouri. They spent the evening at parties. Then, because a friend's house was too crowded, they changed their plans and drove to Suzie's mother's house on East Delmar Street.
It was supposed to be a routine night.
By morning, all three women were gone. Sherrill Levitt, 47. Suzie Streeter, 19. Stacy McCall, 18.
Their purses were on the bedroom floor. Their cars were in the driveway. Their dog was alone in the house, anxious. The front porch light had been broken from the outside. An answering machine message - described by police as strange - was accidentally erased before investigators arrived. An estimated ten to twenty people walked through the scene before police came, emptying ashtrays and cleaning cups and sweeping glass and destroying evidence.
The bodies of Sherrill, Suzie, and Stacy have never been found. No one has been charged. The case is open.
The Springfield Three tells the complete story of Missouri's most haunting cold case: who the three women were, the specific details of graduation night, the evidence that was lost before investigation could begin, the search that found nothing, the primary suspect Robert Craig Cox - who told reporters from a Texas prison that he knew the women were dead and their bodies would never be found - and where the case stands thirty-three years later.
If you have information, please contact the Springfield Police Department at (417) 864-1810.
The Springfield Three is the final book in the Gateway Crime series.
