This book examines the dynamics of settlement in the Congo Basin. The peoples living there are Bantu, including the Teke of Congo and their Kongo and Ngala neighbors, alongside whom other peoples are found. Within this dynamic, there has been coexistence, exchange, intermingling, cultural contact, and technological development. The dual pressure exerted on the Teke in the center of the country (by the Ngala to the north and the Kongo to the south) is manifested in the decline of this people, who have thus lost their former political and economic hegemony. He sheds light on the history of the settlement of the present-day territory of the Congo by these peoples, who today straddle the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Gabon, thereby creating a human dynamic in Central Africa that has become a genuine regional issue.
