The Power of Speech
What defines us as human beings is our ability to speak.

You are a slave to what you say and owner of what you keep silent
Just one word is enough to encourage, cheer, benefit or destroy, harm or kill

The ability to speak is the quality that defines a human being. No other being has the ability to communicate in an eloquent, creative and sensitive way. As we will see, man's words have tremendous power: they are capable of harming, hurting, causing suffering; or, on the contrary, benefiting, favoring, praising, etc., any person.

Our words even have the ability to alter people and objects! When we think about this, we can understand why shemirat halashon (guarding one's speech) is so important in Judaism.

The ability to speak is the main characteristic of human beings. If we analyze the creation of the human being, we will understand that this quality of speech is part of God.
