When Cleopas migrated from Africa to the United Kingdom, he carried with him more than qualifications, experience and ambition. He carried hope. The hope of building a better life, contributing meaningfully, proving himself in a new country and turning years of professional sacrifice into a future of purpose.
But starting again in a new country is not always seen from the outside. Behind the confidence of a migrant professional is often a silent battle: adapting to a new workplace culture, learning unfamiliar systems, understanding unspoken expectations, managing pressure, protecting dignity and trying to succeed without being misunderstood.
For Cleopas, that battle became painfully real through a work probation process that was extended by nine months. What should have been a structured period of support, feedback and development became a season marked by late feedback, limited support, repeated follow-ups, unclear expectations and the emotional burden of feeling that the process was not handled fairly.
On Probation, Not Defeated is more than one man's story. It is a mouthpiece for many migrants with professional aspirations who face challenges they cannot always voice. It speaks for those who arrive with skills, degrees, discipline and dreams, yet find themselves quietly battling systems, culture shock, workplace silence, fear of being labelled difficult and the pressure to prove themselves twice as much.
This book gives language to the silent experience of the professional migrant: the meetings they replay in their minds, the feedback they were not prepared for, the confidence they try to protect, the tears they hide, the prayers they whisper and the strength they are forced to build when no one sees the full weight they are carrying.
It is not a book written from bitterness. It is a book written from experience, reflection, faith, accountability and resilience. It explores what it means to be tested without being broken, delayed without being denied and placed on probation without allowing probation to define your worth.
Through honesty and courage, Cleopas turns a painful workplace experience into a story of growth, purpose and rebuilding. This is a book for migrants, professionals, leaders, employees under pressure and anyone who has ever felt misunderstood, underestimated or silenced while trying to build a life in a new place.
Probation tested him. Migration stretched him. Pressure shaped him.
But he was not defeated
