Diabetic neuropathic pain is a condition which is extremely debilitating and usually difficult to treat. Methanolic extract of Coccinia grandis was tested for analgesic and its anti-inflammatory action on STZ induced diabetic neuropathic rat model. Acute inflammatory activity was studied by Randal pain test. Nociceptive, Neuro-muscular coordination, electrophysiological, inflammatory mediators such as Cyclooxygenase and PG peroxidase which contributes to neuropathic pain were determined in Sciatic nerve and Brain. Analgesic activity was studied in rats using hot plate and tail-flick test. Neurochemical alterations such as glucose, fructose, sorbitol and reduced glutathione were determined in Sciatic nerve and Brain. Enzymes such as hexokinase, aldose reductase, sorbitol dehydrogenase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase were also determined after 3 weeks.
