The Message or Another Gospel? is a comprehensive biblical, historical, and theological examination of William Marrion Branham, the religious movement commonly known as Branhamism or the Message, and the continuing authority attributed to Branham's recorded sermons. Rather than treating every Message believer as identical or reducing the movement to sensational claims, the book distinguishes Branham's historical ministry, the development of his teachings, later interpretations of his legacy, and the diverse ways his authority functions within contemporary Branhamite communities.
Working explicitly from Sola Scriptura, the study asks three governing questions: what the primary sources actually say, what historical evidence can responsibly establish, and how each claim stands when tested against Scripture. It carefully distinguishes documented, disputed, independently confirmed, retrospectively reported, and unverified claims, seeking neither to exaggerate weaknesses nor to protect prophetic assertions from legitimate examination.
Across twenty chapters, the book investigates Branham's transition from healing evangelist to claimed end-time messenger; the authority of the Message and recorded tapes; prophetic tests; the Elijah identification of Malachi 4; Revelation 10:7; the seven church ages and messengers; the Trinity and Godhead; Christology; salvation and baptism; serpent seed; the Bride, denominations, Babylon, and the mark of the beast; the Seven Seals and restored mysteries; signs and wonders; teachings concerning women, marriage, appearance, family, and religious control; prophecy and historical claims; election, predestination, adoption, and eternal security; anthropology, theophany, Melchizedek, and pre-existence; everyday worship and church practice; and the Branhamite eschatological system concerning the Rapture, Israel, Tribulation, Millennium, and New Earth.
The central issue running through the volume is one of authority: whether William Branham should be received as a Christian teacher whose claims remain subject to Scripture, or as an indispensable end-time interpreter whose recognition becomes necessary for understanding God's Word, belonging to the Bride, or receiving truth for the final age. The book argues that extraordinary experiences, healings, signs, prophetic claims, or historical influence cannot exempt any messenger from the apostolic requirement of biblical testing.
Its purpose is ultimately pastoral as well as apologetic. The book seeks not to ridicule Message believers, but to help readers examine inherited beliefs without fear, distinguish Christ from human religious authority, and recover confidence in the sufficiency of the apostolic gospel. Its final appeal is that every prophet, preacher, tradition, recording, institution, and even the arguments of this book must remain corrigible under the Word of God, while Jesus Christ alone remains Lord, Savior, and sufficient foundation for the Church.
