By far the single biggest jump of my career as a leader was the first one, from 'doing' to managing and leading.
This leap was a complete career change requiring an entirely new set of skills, that I was unprepared for. This book is not management theory or how MacDonalds did this in the 80's. It is what I have learned as a 'hands on' manager, leader, and trainer of leaders at all levels.
To produce this book I interviewed CEOs, HR Managers, corporate trainers and others who are at the coal face of hiring, motivating and training new managers and leaders every day, telling it straight on what they look for, the skills you need and how to improve.
Hard skills, soft skills, business skills, process skills what are they? How do you do a risk assessment, or a SWOTA analysis, how do you successfully recruit the right person, financial management, communication styles, mental fitness, time management. There are secrets, tips and techniques to all of these that I have learned from working with people who are exceptional leaders and use these every day.
This book will show you how to put them to work as soon as you read them.
There are real case studies of successes and failures, some are mine, some I have observed and admired, some I have cleaned up.
