Know the WHY before the WHAT and HOW.

If you plan on making project management a long-term career, it is best to find ways to ensure that the Client Wins. This is true whether the client is an internal or external to your organization. If you let client success, be your guiding principle, the goals will take care of themselves.

It is much easier to focus on the bottom line and not client's needs. Most project managers find it easier to focus on time, specifications, and budget. Asking the client Why? is challenging and time consuming, but it is worth the time!

If your project is to be successful, it is important to take the time to focus on your client's needs. It is important that we take the time to identify and talk with stakeholders and validate those needs before building a solution that addresses them.

Remember, needs will evolve over the life of the program. Needs are seldom stagnant and never ending.

This text discusses the need to find the WHY?. Finding the WHY will define your PURPOSE as a successful project manager.
