The matching technique applied to the data on ' rainfed crops module of the 2006-2010 General Agricultural Census (RGA) shows that land tenure security, regardless of the type of property rights, has a negative effect on agricultural yield of 53.14 kg/ha on secure plots across all crops and of 47.15 kg/ha on secure plots used for cereal cultivation. However, legal land tenure with private property rights increases cereal yields by an average of 150.35 kg/ha, whilst traditional or informal land tenure has a negative impact of 43.98 kg/ha, all other things being equal.
