In this book, we have focused on examining disaster profiles and the socio-economic impacts of storms and heat waves in five selected countries. Our analysis and discussion highlight the inconsistencies in definitions across different databases and countries. Additionally, we found that various databases categorize the same disasters differently, and there are discrepancies in reported values for identical indicators during the same time period. Identifying and addressing these gaps and inconsistencies is crucial for the development of reliable disaster resilience frameworks and effective early warning systems. To achieve sustainable development goals, it is more important to manage future disaster risks rather than merely focusing on managing the hazards themselves. Therefore, disaster risk reduction efforts need to be re-evaluated and given greater priority. To mitigate disaster risks and address the challenges posed by climate change in achieving sustainable development goals, ongoing research and innovation, continuous reflection, and the implementation of standardized practices should be key priorities for countries worldwide.
