Endlich ist mit Band V die gro e Lücke von 1431-1447 in der Serie des Repertorium Germanicum (ein Probeband für das Pontifikatsjahr 1431/1432, bearb. von Robert Arnold u.a., erschien 1897) geschlossen, die nun von 1378 bis 1471 (Bände I-IX) reicht. Ergänzt wird er durch Band I des Repertorium Poenitentiariae Germanicum (bearb. von L. Schmugge u.a.) sowie durch Die Rotamanualien des Basler Konzils (bearb. von H.J. Gilomen), beide 1998 erschienen.
Der Pontifikat Eugens IV. bietet manche Besonderheit, insbesondere durch den Bruch des Papstes mit dem Basler Konzil (1438 ff.), was einen Gro teil der Nachfrage aus dem Deutschen Reich (das entsprach damals in etwa Mitteleuropa) nach kurialen Dienstleistungen wegbrechen lie . Gegenüber den jüngst erschienenen Bänden VIII und IX (1993, 2000) wurden sowohl die Textgestaltung als auch die Indices fortentwickelt: Der Text wurde einerseits eindeutiger und detaillierter formuliert, um dem Benutzer entgegenzukommen, andererseits noch weiter standardisiert, um künftige EDV-Recherchen im Text zu erleichtern und den Index der Wörter und Sachen zu verbessern. Bei den Namensindices (Personen- und Ortsnamen) wurde dem Benutzer die ihm weiterhin obliegende Identifizierung erleichtert, indem die Zahl der Namensvarianten erheblich dadurch reduziert wurde, da Thesauri von lateinischen Personen- und Ortsnamen herangezogen wurden. Bei grö eren Orten wurde tiefer sortiert, so da sich auch einzelne Kirchen nachschlagen lassen. Statt der üblichen 7 Indices werden 8 geboten: erstmals ein Index der Exekutoren und Empfänger von Mandaten. Dank der Indices ist das Repertorium Germanicum zu einer systematisch auswertbaren Quelle für die Sozial- und Wirtschaftsgeschichte, die Rechts- und die Frömmigkeits-, aber auch die Architektur- und Medizingeschichte Mitteleuropas geworden.
