After mastering the full passive, Nominalstil, two-part connectors and professional collocations in Book 8, the focus now shifts from correctness to precision, range and style.
You already command roughly 5,500 German words across daily life, work, society, culture. Now you will learn to choose between near-synonyms, report speech accurately, compress clauses elegantly.

1. Konjunktiv I - Full System
Learn how German reports information without endorsing it. Work with the full forms, collapsing tenses, reported questions and commands, and the practical substitution rule used in formal German.
2. Participial Constructions
Understand the contrast between das kochende Wasser and das gekochte Ei: active and ongoing versus passive and completed. Then reduce clauses into concise participial phrases and use formal connectives naturally.
3. Genitive Prepositions in Depth
Move beyond basic meaning and distinguish wegen, aufgrund, infolge and angesichts. The goal is not simply knowing several correct options, but choosing the one that best fits register and nuance.
The 20 chapters cover psychology, philosophy, ethics, literature, film, theatre, music, art, globalisation, international relations, Europe, academic language, vocabulary nuance, style and discourse devices.
