Welcome to 루카의 꿈 (Lucas's Dream), Level B1.1 in the Read Korean Without Guessing series and your first step into TOPIK II. After Seoul routines, travel, customs, and casual speech with Minji, Lucas now begins to think, decide, and move forward.
What Makes B1.1 Different?A2.2 gave you permission, prohibition, obligation, counters, comparisons, ability, and casual speech. Now you begin to express your inner world: opinions, conditions, possibilities, advice, intentions, predictions, contrast, and register choice.
- Register - 박 사장님께는 존댓말을 써요. 민지한테는 반말로 말해요. Learn 합니다체, 해요체, and 반말.
- Opinions - 한국은 좋은 나라라고 생각해요. 내일 비가 올지도 몰라요. Use -다고 생각하다 and -(으)ㄹ지도 모르다.
- Activities - 쉬는 날에는 사진을 찍거나 산책을 해요. Use -거나 and -기도 하다 for or / things like.
- Growth - 좋은 사진을 찍을 수 있게 됐어요. Use -게 되다 to show change over time.
- Conditions - 날씨가 좋으면 사진을 찍으러 가요. Korean uses -(으)면 for both if and when.
- Advice and intentions - 매일 연습하는 게 좋아요. 참가해 보세요. 대회에 참가하려고 해요.
- Future, while, contrast - 어려울 거예요. 음악을 들으면서 일해요. 연습했는데도 긴장했어요.
No guessing. No dictionary. Just reading.
Every Korean word has an immediate English gloss, so you can keep moving without stopping to search.
루카는Lucas 대회에in the contest 참가하려고intends to participate 해요. 좋은good 결과가results 있으면if there are 좋겠어요.would be nice.
Read the interlinear version first for understanding. Then read the Korean-only version. Build recognition, rhythm, and confidence through meaningful reading.
The Story ContinuesAt the end of A2.2, Lucas made a plan for something new. In 루카의 꿈, that plan becomes clear: he takes photography seriously and enters a local contest. He reflects on life in Korea, weighs possibilities, and commits to a goal.
Main Characters- 루카 - 25 years old, a foreign learner in Korea who has found a dream.
- 코코 - Lucas's small brown dog and faithful walking companion.
- 민지 - Lucas's close friend, supportive and encouraging.
- 박 사장님 - a mentor figure who offers wisdom and perspective.
