C'est en suivant le chemin parcouru par les observateurs anciens et modernes que j'ai pu me rendre compte qu'à travers tous les âges, on a eu un grand souci des influences colorées.
C'est donc pour faire suite à ces études que j'ai essayé de dégager les lois de la chromologie après avoirétudié les phénomènes qu'elles engendrent en pénétrant ce vaste et obscur domaine des lumières, des couleursnaturelles et artificielles.
En effet, depuis les temps les plus reculés, chez les peuples les plus primitifs - l'histoire nous le montre -les couleurs ont tenu une place prépondérante.
Nos ancêtres leur reconnaissaient une puissante signification, ils appréciaient leur symbolisme, recherchaientleurs forces pour les adapter aux désirs et aux besoins de leur vie courante, dans l'art et dans la façon de sevêtir.
Quel étrange contraste entre ces observateurs antiques et les obscurantistes de notre époque, lorsque nousvoyons nos jolies contemporaines porter, sous le signe de la mode, tant de toilettes multicolores aussidiscordantes les unes que les autres, en une véritable anarchie colorée, au mépris des intensités lumineuses, desproportions, des vraisemblances et des influences.
Il semble, en effet, que le choix raisonnable des toilettes, des parures et de l'ameublement néglige totalementaujourd'hui l'utilisation des couleurs fastes ou néfastes.
Dans ce livre je me suis efforcé
De ressusciter certains procèdes antiques en accord avec les progrès successifs de nos connaissances;
De résumer des démonstrations théoriques expérimentales et des constatations pratiques que la comparaison, l'observation attentive et l'analyse de chaque jour m'ont permis d'établir;
