Cogeneration is a high-yield (80 to 90% in general) energy production system. In highly efficient industrial applications, the yield can be more than 95% and in fact approach 100%. It consists in producing from a primary energy (fuel) two usable secondary energies: mechanical or electrical, and thermal. Cogeneration is among the most energetically efficient techniques for the use of fossil fuels and renewable energy sources. After explaining the functioning of small and medium power cogeneration units, the work goes on to present the various types of cogeneration, the fuels used, and the organization of the required power. In addition, it discusses the legislative aspects of this energy mode.
