This book aims to analyze the development of this sector and to examine, from both economic and social perspectives, its positive and negative effects, particularly in the urban areas of Madagascar. The main causes stem first from parents who personally train their successors, who then continue to work in the informal sector; second, the income distribution resulting from the crisis between the public sector and poor individuals in the informal sector fosters the creation and development of the informal sector; furthermore, cumbersome procedures, additional costs due to taxes and social security contributions, and finally, rural exodus, the absence and inadequacy of vocational training, an ill-suited institutional system, and the bandwagon effect also contribute significantly to the growth of the informal sector. Indeed, on the one hand, the informal sector makes contributions not only at the social level but also at the economic level, acting as a buffer and crisis regulator, and posing a very serious challenge to the formal sector.
