ELVEN COURTESIES: Comments and Polite Expressions-Simple Phrases and Philosophical Insights from Elven Culture is a book filled with various elven expressions, sayings and adages with their simple Arvyndase translations (the magical language of The Silver Elves). However, while we have Arvyndase in this book and sometimes provide notes about its usage, this is not primarily a book about our elven language. Rather it is, like most of our The Silver Elves books, a book of philosophy concerning elven culture and a glimpse into the elven point of view as we gaze upon and encounter the worlds both normal and supernatural.

Elven Courtesies has over 200 expressions for communication in eight chapters, which include: Elven Greetings; Starlight Salutations; Elven Blessings and Well Wishes; Elvish Phrases for Practical and Mundane Life; Elven Expressions for Introductions; Miscellaneous Elven Expressions; and Advice, Adages and Admonitions of the Faerie Folk. We know you will find these expressions to be wondrously enchanting as they often evoke a connection to nature, with lyrical beauty that has magical effects of well- being.

Our philosophies of life, the way we view life, affects how we act and also our communications. Of course, some people, perhaps many, say they believe one thing and yet act in an entirely different way. So, in the long run, our actions and behaviors say more about what our philosophies actually are than our mouths. Still, we elves strive to harmonize the two and, as the saying goes, to 'walk our talk'.

Unlike traditional books of philosophy by such authors as Hegel, Kant, and Kierkegaard, our books don't argue a particular philosophical point but rather reveal, in bits and pieces, how we elves think and view the worlds (both normal and elfin). In that way, these observations would be closer, in form, to the works of Lao Tzu. So we Silver Elves invite you to come enjoy a glimpse into our elven world and philosophy through learning about the courtesies and expressions we use in our day-to-day life and magic.
