In 2015, General Motors was known as a lumbering behemoth, fresh out of bankruptcy. The company shocked the industry by announcing the World's first affordable long-range EV, the Chevrolet Bolt. How did that happen? The Bolt was the basis for the Cruise AV, the World's first mass-produced Autonomous Vehicle. Battery fires and a $1 billion recall failed to diminish the Bolt's place in history. In 2023, the Bolt was cancelled. This updated second edition covers GM's journey with EVs and explains how government pressure helped make the Bolt a reality. It also discusses President Trump's impact on the EV industry. It explains why CarPlay and Android Auto were removed. It also explores the possible future of the Bolt.
