这本《美妙中国城市游》，是本人在中国国内旅游经历的真实记录。
本人旅游过的地方，大都在城市及其周边。这些地方不仅有现代建筑、主题公园、农家乐、娱乐场所，而且有古代建筑、文物古迹、皇家园林、博物馆、江南水乡、寺庙道观庵堂，以及名川大山，江河湖海等。在城市及周边旅游，不仅可以看到城乡的美景，壮丽的山河湖海，而且透过建筑、文物的外表，能够探究其中的历史故事、文化内涵、人类社会的发展的变迁。城市及周边旅游不仅看美景，大饱眼福，陶冶情操，而且探讨其中的奥妙，学得一些知识，丰富自己的老年生活。因此本书名为《美妙中国城市游》。
本书各城市按旅游的时间顺序编排，每个城市有简介，介绍这座城市的历史、地理、气候、经济、交通、景点、美食等。每个城市内景点介绍和描述，同样是按照旅游的时间顺序排列。同一省内的城市，编排在一起。本人旅游过的城市和每个城市旅游过的景点有限，因此，本书仅仅是中国城市旅游景点的窥豹一斑，挂一漏万，并非是对每个城市所有景点的介绍。
本书正文之前，附有四篇文章。其中，第一篇《旅游感悟》，是本人多年旅游的一些感受，悟得的体会。第二篇《中国旅游业七十年》，是本书写完之后，对中国旅游业做些探讨和琢磨，写出的一篇分析性文章。第三篇《疫情下的旅游业》，实际是对第二篇文章的补充。第四篇《徐霞客小传》，是对本人崇拜的旅游鼻祖、旅游大师、地理学家、文学家徐霞客做一简略介绍。
写作和出版本书的目的，是与大家分享中国城市的美妙。然而由于本人智浅才疏，书中错误难免，恳请读者批评指正。
