舞蹈是人体生命的跃动，人们的生活是舞蹈艺术的源泉；舞蹈艺术的诞生是人类生活的需要，舞蹈是人类生命的延续；舞蹈使人健壮、美丽，舞蹈使人焕发出青春的光彩。毛泽东同志的《在延安文艺座谈会上的讲话》指出：作为观念形态的文艺作品，都是一定的社会生活在人类头脑中的反映的产物。革命的文艺，则是人民生活在革命作家头脑中的反映的产物。习近平总书记《在文艺工作座谈会上的讲话》中说：人民是文艺创作的源头活水，一旦离开人民，文艺就会变成无根的浮萍、无病的呻吟、无魂的躯壳。无一不是与人民群众生活有着紧密的联系，无一不是和人民群众同呼吸、共命运所结出的硕果。舞蹈理论的阐述是为了使人民更加了解舞蹈艺术本身的奥秘-它既来源于生活，又给生活以影响；舞蹈评论则能使读者更加清楚一个舞蹈、舞剧作品的内涵以及存在哪些优点和不足，同时也给作者-编导和舞者提供了可供参考、更快更好前进的道路和方向。作为舞者和读者的朋友，我把作于1955年至2019年的40多篇文章编辑成册，把它们分为舞蹈基础理论舞蹈评论和其他友谊的论述和附录四个部分，把这个册子定名为《漫议舞蹈艺术》。本书既可以作为了解我国舞蹈创作是如何逐步走向繁荣的学习资料，也可以作为了解我国舞蹈艺术发展历史的参考材料。
