This study was conducted with the aim to identify the top challenges and opportunities of electronic banking in Ethiopia, in case of Awash and Dashen banks. Descriptive research design and mixed methods of approach were used to collect data from the sampled banks. At the same time 200 respondents were selected by stratified sampling techniques from each two banks. Structured questionnaires and interviews were used for collecting primary data source. Data analysis carried out using SPSS statistical software and to examine the effect descriptive statistics with mean, standard deviation and percentage were used. The study found out opportunities for the expansion of e-banking technology like: improvements of the banking habits of the people and government commitment to strength the bank industry were the major once. However, different challenges were impaled the adaptation of e-banking. These challenges were the outcome of three main generic factors such as environmental, technical and organizational and such factors brought their own specific and immediate challenges.
