Despite the growing concern to find more sustainable sources of energy, the demand for oil is set to grow in the coming years. To keep up with this growth, the oil industry is investing more and more in innovation and efficiency. As a result, new technologies have been developed to explore deeper waters without sacrificing the world's best operational safety practices. The use of rigid pipelines in deepwater offshore installations has been increasing rapidly and ways of storing and launching pipelines have been studied and improved. This study analysed the Bauschinger Effect in API 5L X70 steel. In order to observe this phenomenon, a tensile test was carried out to determine the mechanical properties of the base metal, such as yield strength, tensile strength, modulus of elasticity and maximum stress, for subsequent comparison with the results obtained by the Bauschinger Effect test.
