The purpose of this study is to verify the feasibility of using the finite element method to simulate qualification tests for metal x metal seals for use underwater in oil prospecting equipment. This work suggests the use of specialized finite element calculation software to help with the design stages, simulating validation tests due to the high costs of manufacturing, testing and re-design. It also aims to define and show the steps required to perform calculations using FEM for metal x metal seals. Once the ideal theoretical design has been verified, the validation test would be carried out, increasing the likelihood of successful test results. Using the proposed methodology, real preliminary tests can be replaced by computer simulations, reducing time and cost.
