Grounded in documented research, 2050 is an interdisciplinary work of public scholarship that combines speculative scenarios with an original framework-the 2050 Test, seven questions to ask before handing a decision to a machine-for deciding when human judgment may be delegated to artificial intelligence, and what safeguards should govern that delegation.
Through eight ordinary people-Sofia, a college student; Amir, sixteen; Davide, a manager deciding how far to trust the plan his systems produced overnight; Luca, a physician; Elena, a mayor; Karim, a warehouse worker; Matteo, in civic communications for a midsize city; and Teresa, seventy-eight and living alone, searching for the boundary between care and control-the book enters the places where the future is actually being decided: work, the city, the university, the hospital, information, identity, art, and human relationships. The scenes form a chorus, not a plot.
Naive enthusiasm produces blindness; indiscriminate fear produces paralysis. 2050 proposes something more demanding: mature hope-adopting technology when it improves life, limiting it when it multiplies harm, and slowing it when it outruns our understanding.
In a world capable of knowing, predicting, and deciding in our place, 2050 asks what it still means to understand, to choose, and to take responsibility. It is written for readers who want not merely to endure technological change but to help govern it.
