It explores a documented diplomatic relationship with Teotihuacan, one of the largest cities in the ancient world, sustained entirely on foot across hundreds of miles of mountainous terrain. And it examines the gradual, largely peaceful decline of Monte Albán's political authority, a decline that transformed the valley without ending the civilization that had built it.
