Beneath the cities, ancient domes that once rose from the Earth now lie hidden in the crust, holding the secret cost of civilisation's survival.
When fragments of erased memory begin returning, Vanio finds out that the peaceful world has been built through correction: grief, conflict, family bonds and dangerous histories have been removed, softened or buried beneath the Earth's crust. Beneath the shining cities and the global Sightline travel system lie ancient domes, child-anchor chambers and the hidden machinery of The Continuum.
As Vanio uncovers the erased truth of his wife, Lora, and the child turned into a living door, he must face the central question of the Fourth Earth: can humanity remember what was stolen without being destroyed by the pain of its return?
