THE WORLD OF IBN ʿARABI
Mysticism, Imagination, and the Unity of Being
Roberto Minichini

Few figures in the history of Islamic thought have exercised an influence as profound, enduring, and controversial as Ibn ʿArabī. Born in Murcia in 1165 and formed in the intellectual world of al-Andalus, he travelled through North Africa, Egypt, the Hijaz, Iraq, Anatolia, and Syria before settling in Damascus, where he died in 1240. Mystic, visionary, Qurʾanic interpreter, poet, and metaphysical thinker, he created one of the most complex intellectual universes of the medieval Islamic world.
