The thirty-six tattvas are among the most profound metaphysical frameworks in the spiritual traditions of India. In the Shaiva understanding, the universe is not something created outside God, but Śiva's own unfolding through Śakti into every dimension of existence.
They describe the complete spectrum of existence - from the infinite consciousness of Paramaśiva to the densest layers of physical reality. This book draws upon the revelatory scriptures and philosophical masterworks of Trika Kashmir Shaivism, including the Tantrāloka, Tantrasāra, Mālinīvijayottara Tantra, Śiva Sūtras, Spanda Kārikā, and Pratyabhijñāhṛdayam, along with the teachings of Abhinavagupta, Utpaladeva, Kṣemarāja, and Swami Lakshmanjoo.
These tattvas are living stages in the descent of consciousness itself. They map the gradual self-concealment of Śiva through vibration, limitation, mind, body, matter, space, and time, revealing how the One becomes the many without ever ceasing to remain One. Hidden within this descent is also the path of return - the recognition that every level of existence is permeated by the same divine consciousness from which it emerged.
This book is both a philosophical study and a contemplative pilgrimage through these levels of manifestation, inviting the reader to experience the universe not as fragmented matter, but as the living body of Śiva Himself.
