Janet and Edward are happy to return to Doveby Dale. Neither is interested in continuing to work with the agency while Mr. Brown is still in charge. The carriage house project has been completed, and they are both happy to spend some time settling into their new home.

While Janet and Edward are reluctant to get involved in a murder investigation, it quickly becomes obvious that if they don't find the killer, Mr. Jones is going to be blamed for Adam Miles's untimely death.
