It's late November, which means Thanksgiving for American Margaret Woods. Since the holiday isn't celebrated on the Isle of Man, where she currently lives, she's happy to be flying back to the US to spend a week with her sister, Megan, there. Margaret's boyfriend, Ted, comes along, ready to experience his first Thanksgiving.
They're planning to spend the week exploring Cleveland, Ohio, but Megan has a different idea. One of her friends from work needs a favor. She's recently inherited a small cottage on Lake Erie and plans to spend the week of Thanksgiving cleaning the cottage that's been sitting empty for ten years. She asked Megan, Margaret, and Ted if they'd like to help in exchange for a place to stay in the small town and a Thanksgiving feast to remember. They're all happy to agree.
But when they get to the cottage, what they find in one of the bedrooms puts all of the plans on hold. It's impossible to say how long the skeleton had been in the cottage, but it doesn't take long for people to start speculating as to its identity. Margaret and Ted find themselves caught up in another murder investigation. And, of course, Mona has to get involved as well, even if her energy levels are low and that affects her appearance.
