At fifty-three, Professor Dipankar Sen had become famous for one thing: never arriving on time. His colleagues called him The Tardy Clinophile, a man who loved his bed more than ambition itself. Yet one winter morning, he awoke to discover that his bedroom wall displayed tomorrow's newspaper.
The headline read:
Professor Dies at 9:17 PM.
Chapter 2: The Race Against TomorrowDetermined to avoid death, Dipankar canceled meetings, ignored calls, and hid inside his house.
At 9:17 PM, nothing happened.
Relieved, he laughed.
Then he noticed another newspaper appearing on the wall.
Professor Escapes Death, Unleashes National Crisis.
Chapter 3: The Butterfly in SlippersThe next day's newspaper predicted a bridge collapse caused indirectly by Dipankar.
He stayed home again.
The bridge still collapsed.
Investigators discovered that because Dipankar missed his lecture, a student took a different route home and triggered a chain of events leading to disaster.
Chapter 4: The Mathematics of DelayObsessed, Dipankar began studying the newspapers.
A horrifying pattern emerged.
Every tragedy involved someone being late.
A delayed train.
A postponed surgery.
A missed phone call.
Chapter 5: The Society of SleepersOne article mentioned a secret organization.
The Society of Sleepers.
They believed procrastination was not weakness but a hidden force controlling reality.
Their motto:
The universe advances through postponement.
Chapter 6: The Keeper of Lost HoursThere he met an ancient woman called Saraswati Devi.
She claimed time was not linear.
Every postponed decision generated alternate worlds.
Most people unknowingly created thousands of realities.
Clinophiles, procrastinators, and dreamers created millions.
Chapter 7: The Archive of Unlived LivesSaraswati showed him a chamber filled with mirrors.
Each mirror reflected a version of himself.
Chapter 8: The Son Who Never ExistedOne mirror showed a son.
A son Dipankar never had.
The boy smiled and said:
You chose sleep over love.
Dipankar remembered a woman he had once loved deeply.
Years ago, he delayed proposing.
Chapter 9: The Murder of PossibilitiesThe Society revealed a terrible secret.
Every decision killed countless futures.
Choosing one path was an act of mass extinction.
Chapter 10: The BedmakerThe future newspapers suddenly changed.
A mysterious figure called The Bedmaker appeared.
He was destroying timelines.
Entire realities vanished overnight.
Chapter 11: The Kingdom of RegretsUsing the mirrors, Dipankar entered an alternate universe.
There he found billions of people trapped in endless contemplation.
Nobody acted.
Nobody risked.
Nobody loved.
Nobody failed.
Chapter 12: The Final MorningThe Bedmaker explained his mission.
Every choice causes suffering.
Every action creates victims.
Therefore, the only ethical solution was eternal delay.
No decisions.
Chapter 13: The Trial of ActionAcross countless realities, alternate versions of Dipankar gathered.
The ambitious ones defended action.
The fearful ones defended delay.
The debate lasted centuries inside a single second.
At the end, neither side won.
Chapter 14: The Last NewspaperOne final newspaper appeared.
It contained no headlines.
Only a question:
What makes a life meaningful?
There was no prediction.
No answer.
For the first time, the future remained silent.
The universe itself seemed to be waiting.
