The first edition of this book named seven human capabilities, called them irreplaceable, and told you to build your career behind them.The walls did not hold.
Systems learned to do more of what the author had called safely human, and they will learn more still. So this revised and expanded edition does what the book asks its readers to do: it looks at what actually happened, and corrects the claim where the claim was made.
Here is what the last two years taught, and it is better news than the original promise.
The danger was never that machines would replace you. It is quieter than that. Plausible answers have become nearly free, they arrive looking finished, and much in working life now rewards letting the first plausible answer become the last word. What has grown scarce is not human capability. It is the willingness to test consequential work against something that can change it, and to answer for what follows.
Being AI-proof is not a moat around a human skill. It is a way of working.
