High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Salvia axillaris is a perennial native to central Mexico from San Luis Potosi to Oaxaca. It is grown in horticulture as a ground cover, as it spreads on shoots that root at the nodes. It reaches about 1 m in height, with a great deal of variety in the leaves, depending on where it is growing. The flowers are small white tubes mostly hidden inside a small dark purple calyx, with the upper lip hooded and dark purple. The flowering plants (angiosperms), also known as Angiospermae or Magnoliophyta, are the most diverse group of land plants. Together with gymnosperms, they are the only extant groups of seed-producing plants, but they can be distinguished from the gymnosperms by a series of synapomorphies (derived characteristics). These characteristics include flowers, endosperm within the seeds, and the production of fruits that contain the seeds.
