Running is one of the most popular sports among amateur athletes. In Austria, approximately 2 million people run at least occasionally. Almost as many people (approximately 1.8 million) suffer from back pain, which is mainly concentrated in the lumbar spine. This book highlights how common back pain is among runners who train regularly. It also clarifies the possible factors that are related to the prevention of back pain in runners. The factors examined for this purpose are core stabilisation training, various training factors, the footwear used and the surface on which the runner mainly runs. Furthermore, it analyses whether there are any resulting recommendations for runners with regard to the prevention of low back pain.
