Osteoporose, Arthritis und Arthrose, Rheuma, Alzheimer und Parkinson, fehlen bei vielen Organismen, die oft eng korreliert nach einer erfolgreichen Fortpflanzung ohne auffallige und/oder lang andauernde Alterserscheinungen sterben. All dies wirft zwingend die (moderne) Frage nach einer genetischen Fixierung des Lebensalters auf (Programmtheorie des Alterns); es ist auch die Frage nach dem aprogrammierten Tod, der dann in den Genen verankert sein muesste. Ein singulares, ultimatives Altersgen scheint es aber nicht zu geben. Man schatzt, dass es ca. 7a000 verschiedene Regulator-Gene gibt, die das Altern direkt oder indirekt mitbestimmen. Sie alle darzustellen ist wenig sinnvoll. In der vorliegenden Arbeit stellen wir dar, welche wichtigen Alters-Gene bekannt sind und welche Rolle diese im Hinblick auf den Alternsprozess und die Lebensbegrenzung spielen (konnten).
