Two probiotics can share the same name on the label and do completely different things. This book is built to tell you which is which.

Contains Lactobacillus. Now with Bifidobacterium. The supplement aisle is full of species names - and a species name tells you almost nothing. A probiotic's effect comes from the specific strain (the code after the name: GG, HN001, DSM 17938), not from the species. L. rhamnosus GG and L. rhamnosus HN001 are different organisms, with different evidence behind them. Most labels - and most books - blur that line. This one is built entirely on it.
