Step inside the fateful Chicago 1880 convention where a little-known congressman became a presidential nominee. History crackles in these pages. These official republican convention proceedings record, in sober detail and vivid contemporary language, the entire drama of the Republican National Convention held at Chicago, Illinois, in June 1880. From opening credentials disputes to the final roll calls that produced the James Garfield nomination for president and named Chester Arthur vice president, readers witness party politics as it unfolded, not as it was later remembered. As a complete convention proceedings volume, it preserves speeches, motions, and resolutions that shaped the Republican Party platform 1880 and offers a rare, unfiltered portrait of Gilded Age America on the brink of the presidential election 1880. For students of American history and anyone curious about Republican Party history, this rich political history primary source is truly invaluable. Ideal for academic political research yet accessible to general readers and classic-literature collectors, it brings the atmosphere of the convention hall to life while remaining a meticulous documentary record. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions. Restored for today's and future generations. More than a reprint - a collector's item and a cultural treasure.
