O marxismo, talvez mais do que qualquer outra escola de pensamento filosófico na era moderna, tenha despertado as mentes, os corações e as lutas de indivÃduos em todo o mundo. Nascido da crÃtica contundente ao capitalismo e da visão de uma sociedade justa, ele se consolidou como um grito de guerra para a revolução e um objeto de intensa investigação acadêmica. Este livro busca apresentar a evolução da filosofia marxista, seus debates internos e sua relevância em um mundo que enfrenta profundas desigualdades, crises ecológicas e mudanças de paradigmas polÃticos.
Os fundamentos filosóficos do marxismo remontam à s convulsões intelectuais da Europa do século XIX. Karl Marx, juntamente com Friedrich Engels, sintetizou as correntes crÃticas do idealismo alemão (particularmente Hegel), da economia polÃtica britânica (especialmente Adam Smith e David Ricardo) e do socialismo francês. Contudo, o marxismo nunca foi meramente a soma de suas partes; emergiu como uma crÃtica transformadora das relações sociais existentes e um método para compreender - e transformar - o mundo. A concepção materialista da história de Marx, sua teoria da luta de classes e sua análise do capital não são doutrinas estáticas, mas ferramentas dinâmicas destinadas a interpretar e intervir na sociedade.
O marxismo postula que a história da humanidade é moldada por condições materiais e relações econômicas, e que o motor da mudança histórica reside no conflito entre as classes sociais. Em sua essência, está a crença de que o capitalismo, embora historicamente progressista em seu desenvolvimento inicial, inevitavelmente gera contradições - entre trabalho e capital, valor de uso e valor de troca, propriedade privada e necessidade social - que o tornam insustentável. Essas contradições, argumentava Marx, levariam, em última instância, ao colapso do sistema e ao surgimento de uma sociedade comunista sem classes.
Este livro não busca oferecer uma visão dogmática do marxismo, mas sim dialogar com seu rico e frequentemente contestado legado. O pensamento marxista passou por inúmeras transformações - através do leninismo, maoÃsmo, marxismo ocidental, teoria crÃtica e pós-marxismo, entre outros. Cada uma dessas variações buscou adaptar a análise marxista a novos contextos, desde a dinâmica do imperialismo e do colonialismo até questões de ideologia, cultura e subjetividade. A diversidade dentro da teoria marxista é uma prova de sua vitalidade e de sua capacidade de autocrÃtica.
Igualmente importante é a relação entre teoria e prática. O marxismo sempre enfatizou a práxis: a unidade entre a reflexão filosófica e a ação polÃtica. É nas lutas de trabalhadores, camponeses, estudantes e ativistas que as ideias marxistas encontraram suas expressões mais poderosas. Da Comuna de Paris à Revolução Russa, dos movimentos de libertação anticolonial aos debates contemporâneos sobre justiça climática e neoliberalismo, o marxismo serviu tanto como lente quanto como arma.
Contudo, também devemos confrontar as complexidades e os fracassos dos regimes e movimentos de inspiração marxista. A história do marxismo inclui distorções autoritárias, dificuldades econômicas e profundos dilemas éticos. Este livro não se esquiva dessas questões. Em vez disso, busca compreendê-las em sua especificidade histórica e questionar quais lições podem ser aprendidas para o futuro.
Os capÃtulos que se seguem têm como objetivo apresentar as dimensões filosóficas do marxismo, incluindo sua ontologia, epistemologia e ética.
