Carlton Brick, high school drop out and amateur treasure hunter, thought his ship had finally come in when he found a pot of gold buried in the rubble of a demolished apartment building. After that his luck not only changed, but seemed to be the best ever. Almost like magic. Until the gold's owner came looking for it.
The problem is there are two supernatural beings who claim ownership of the gold. One a crafty leprechaun and the other a powerful dragon. The pair has been fighting, stealing, conning, and killing for the magical gold that is the source of their power for millennia and they are not going to stop just because some mortal, or the city he is currently in, gets in their way. Both sides offer him rewards if he turns the gold over to them and promise swift vengeance if he crosses one in favor of the other.
Carlton has to either choose a side, hoping that one can and will protect him and everything he cares about from the other, or figure out why these two are so desperate to retrieve the gold in the first place. An ancient secret that may test him in ways even fear for his life could not. Meanwhile he is quickly running out of time to do anything because immortal though they are, their patience is short and if it becomes too much of a hassle to convince him to hand it over they may decide it is easier to settle things between just the two of them. Once they pry the gold from Carlton's cold dead hands.
