Accompanied by Archivist-9, an ancient, deteriorating AI that is slowly forgetting historical facts but learning how to feel human emotions, Cassian tracks the remnants of Mother Ash's legacy across the floating ruins.
As Cassian uncovers the scattered, weather-beaten journals of the Witnesses, his clinical detachment shatters. He realizes that Mother Ash intentionally built a legacy where nothing centered on herself, preparing comfort instead of survival. He discovers that civilizations, monuments, and planets may disappear, but the simple act of bearing witness to another life can outlast the collapse of everything else. Ultimately, Cassian abandons his role as a detached historian, picking up a blank journal to travel between the drifting islands and continue the work Mother Ash started centuries earlier.
