What do you do when you are the youngest person in the room and nobody wants to hear you?
Jeremiah was barely grown when God called him, and the first thing he said back was that he was only a child. He was told to go anyway. He went, and he kept going for about forty years, in a cool silver green olive grove under a pale limestone city wall where almost nobody wanted to listen.
Fourteen full-page illustrations follow his working life. One branch of white almond blossom opens before anything else in the year. A potter squashes a spoiled bowl and quietly makes it again. A scroll is destroyed and Jeremiah simply sits down and writes it a second time. A kind man lowers old rags and ropes into a deep well and lifts him out. And when everything looks finished, Jeremiah counts out silver and buys a field, because he believed God would bring his people home.
