Isaiah lived when armies were close and everybody was afraid. God sent him to say something nobody expected: help is coming, and it is bigger than the trouble. This retelling opens the longest book of the prophets for small children, out in a red rock canyon where a dry wilderness is quietly turning green again.
Fourteen full-page illustrations walk through what Isaiah actually said. A green shoot pushes up out of a dead stump. White flowers open on sand where nothing had grown for years. Water breaks out in the desert, a wolf lies down beside a lamb, and an eagle climbs on a wind that a tired child cannot feel yet. Then Isaiah promises a child who would be born and grow up to be the kindest King the world ever had.
