Nel cuore della Chiesa, là dove lo Spirito ha tessuto con silenziosa sapienza la trama della santità nascosta, sorge un'esperienza profetica e radicale: la Comunità dei Figli di Dio. Essa non nasce da un progetto umano, ma da un grido interiore, un'esigenza divina: appartenere a Dio in modo totale, esclusivo, assoluto. In questo contesto si inserisce la figura di don Divo Barsotti, fondatore e profeta del nostro tempo, che ha consegnato alla Comunità una visione luminosa della vita religiosa, centrata non tanto sull'efficienza quanto sull'essere: essere santi, essere poveri, essere casti, essere obbedienti. Essere di Dio.
I Quattro rami della Comunità non è solo un titolo: è un itinerario, un'identità , una fiamma accesa nel cuore di chi ha deciso di seguire Cristo crocifisso e risorto attraverso i quattro rami della Comunità dei Figli di Dio - sacerdoti, religiosi, laici consacrati e famiglie. Quattro rami, un solo albero: la vita in Dio, per Dio, con Dio. In questo libro esploriamo, con mente aperta e cuore ardente, la ricchezza e la sfida di una vocazione che interpella ogni battezzato, ciascuno secondo la propria via, ma con lo stesso fuoco dentro: Amare Dio con tutto il cuore, con tutta l'anima, con tutta la mente (cf. Dt 6,5). Questo è lo Shemà che don Barsotti ripeteva instancabilmente. Non una formula, ma un grido. Un fuoco. Un appello. Perché la vera alternativa alla preghiera del cuore non è l'indifferenza, ma lo scempio spirituale dell'uomo che vive senza direzione, senza ascolto, senza amore. Shemà o scemo? È una provocazione, ma anche una verità o ascolti Dio, o sei sordo alla tua stessa vocazione.
Al centro del cammino ci sono i voti religiosi, che don Barsotti non concepisce come semplici impegni canonici, ma come medicina contro i vizi, come via di liberazione dell'uomo da tutto ciò che lo incatena. In un mondo dominato dalla brama di possesso, dalla dittatura dell'ego e dall'idolatria del piacere, i voti diventano un grido controculturale: la povertà contro l'avidità , la castità contro l'edonismo, l'obbedienza contro la superbia dell'autonomia. Sono strumenti duri, certo, ma anche luminosi, capaci di ridonare all'uomo la sua libertà originaria. Chi è più libero del santo?, si chiedeva Barsotti. Solo chi ha consegnato tutto può possedere tutto in Dio.
E che dire della castità e del celibato? Due realtà spesso confuse, ma profondamente diverse. Il celibato è uno stato, la castità è una virtù. Si può essere celibi e non casti, e casti pur vivendo nella vocazione coniugale. Don Barsotti ci invita a riscoprire la castità come integrità dell'amore, come capacità di amare senza possedere, di donarsi senza trattenere. È un amore cristico, che riflette l'amore verginale del Figlio per il Padre.
Lungo le pagine di questo libro, il lettore sarà accompagnato da meditazioni, provocazioni, testimonianze e frammenti del pensiero di don Divo Barsotti. Non si tratta di una semplice esposizione teologica, ma di un pellegrinaggio interiore. Ogni capitolo è una soglia da varcare, ogni riflessione un invito a mettersi in discussione.
Perché alla fine, la domanda vera resta sempre la stessa: A chi appartengo? Se sapremo rispondere con verità , forse allora scopriremo di essere anche noi - nel nostro piccolo, con le nostre miserie - uno dei quattro della Comunità .
E scopriremo che, forse, essere santi è semplicemente ascoltare. Shemà , Israele...
