Al centro di questo saggio vi è l'incontro tra due grandi figure: Divo Barsotti, mistico e teologo italiano dal cuore contemplativo, e Hans Urs von Balthasar, uno dei più influenti teologi cattolici del Novecento, intellettuale raffinato e voce autorevole del pensiero cristiano europeo.
L'opera non si limita a ricostruire i dati storici della loro relazione, ma indaga con sensibilità e profondità il senso di un legame raro e fecondo, nato non tanto dalla somiglianza quanto dalla comunione nello Spirito. Due uomini diversi per stile, linguaggio, formazione e cultura, eppure uniti da una comune passione per il Mistero di Dio, per la bellezza della Rivelazione e per l'urgenza di una fede vissuta con radicalità .
Il testo mette in luce momenti chiave di questa amicizia: scambi epistolari, riferimenti reciproci nelle opere, riconoscimenti pubblici e, soprattutto, la famosa prefazione di Balthasar a uno scritto di Barsotti, che giocò un ruolo determinante nel far conoscere il pensiero del sacerdote fiorentino al di fuori dei confini italiani. Quelle parole di stima - che parlavano di splendore inaudito e di una spiritualità dalla forza sorgiva e fresca - divennero un sigillo di autorevolezza, spalancando le porte a traduzioni, conferenze e nuove letture dell'opera barsottiana.
Attraverso una narrazione avvincente e ben documentata, il libro esplora anche le differenze tra i due autori: il rigore teologico e sistematico di Balthasar si confronta con l'approccio esistenziale, lirico e spesso profetico di Barsotti. Eppure, proprio in questo dialogo tra diversità emerge la ricchezza della loro amicizia, che diventa un modello di comunione ecclesiale e intellettuale.
Non mancano pagine più intime, in cui si percepisce come la stima reciproca non fosse solo teologica, ma anche umana, fondata su un ascolto profondo, su una capacità rara di riconoscere il bene e la verità nell'altro. L'amicizia tra Barsotti e Balthasar viene così restituita non come semplice episodio biografico, ma come testimonianza viva di una fede che pensa, prega e ama.
Due Voci, un Solo Cuore è un libro che tocca la mente e il cuore. È un invito a riscoprire la bellezza dell'amicizia spirituale, la forza del dialogo tra carismi diversi, e la necessità , oggi più che mai, di una teologia capace di scaturire dalla vita e di parlare al mondo con parole piene di luce e fuoco.
