The present study surveyed the published literature on the clinical characteristics of COVID-19 in infants and children regarding the manifestation in the oral cavity. A literature review of studies demonstrated that children with COVID-19 can be completely asymptomatic or have mild to moderate symptoms that can result in not being diagnosed. In particular, there were a few cases of diffuse oral pain, desquamative gingivitis, ulcers and blisters in children. Oral manifestations were also reported to be associated with dermatological alterations i.e. erythema multiforme- like eruption. The authors emphasize the importance of pediatric careful evaluation on cutaneous and oral manifestations as a possible first sign of COVID-19 disease. Pediatric population might present a hyper-inflammatory response due SARS-CoV-2 infection and early diagnosis may prevent possible complications such as Kawasaki disease, immune/idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, and multisystemic inflammatory syndrome.
