In 1999, I published a book entitled, Am I There Yet? I had recently been elevated to professor emeritus status at New Orleans Theological Seminary and could see my seventies approaching. This book explored a number of questions, from Where have I been? to Where do I go from here? Fifteen years have passed since then. I have been there a while now, so I have a much clearer idea what it means to be at the final stage of my developmental life. What I have learned is that, with a little care, this stage can be every bit as full and satisfying as all those which preceded it. I wrote I Am There to help people celebrate the privilege of advancing in years. The insights I offer are meant to show how a few deliberate choices involving attitude, behavior, perception, and priorities can contribute immensely to enjoying a high quality senior life.
