A study aimed at determining the benthic macroinvertebrate community in the Wamie River in Kribi, in the Southern Region of Cameroon, with a view to assessing its ecological health, was conducted from May through October 2020. Samples were collected on a monthly basis. Physicochemical variables were analyzed in accordance with the recommendations of APHA and Rodier. Sampling of benthic macroinvertebrates was carried out using a multi-habitat approach. The results of the hydrological analyses indicate that the slope and flow velocity vary from one station to another and that the width of the riverbed increases from upstream to downstream. The physicochemical analyses reveal very good oxygenation of the water, slight acidity (6.12 0.19 UC), and a temperature that varies very little from month to month (26.69 0.35 C). These waters are also low in oxidizable organic matter and nitrogen compounds. The very low Organic Pollution Index (OPI) values recorded indicate minimal human impact on the environment, demonstrating that the waters of the Wamie River are largely undisturbed and therefore of fairly good ecological quality.
