Set in the Scottish Highlands circa the 1600s, a young man named Deòrsa has never fitted in with the rest of his village. People are hard to understand and sometimes, the world itself is overwhelming. When a dare gone wrong puts him face to face with the Grimalkin - the creature that keeps everyone out of the forest during winter - he's surprised when it's not a monster he meets but a member of the Daoine-Sìth. A cat-sìth, to be precise, the same age as him that he comes to know as Grimal. From that moment on, fitting in with his village is the last thing on his mind...

The Grimalkin tells the story of Deòrsa, a human, and Grimal, a cat-sìth (cat fairy) and how their relationship grows and changes over a period of seven years from their first meeting at 15 into adulthood. While never outright stated due to the historical setting, Deòrsa is neurodivergent (autistic) and pansexual while Grimal is non-binary and is referred to with they/them pronouns and some choice gendered terms.
