The Gift of the Magi is a short story written by O. Henry, but this particular edition is illustrated by Robert Collier. The story tells the tale of a young couple, Jim and Della, who are deeply in love but struggling financially. It is Christmas Eve, and both Jim and Della want to give each other a special gift, but they cannot afford it. Della has beautiful long hair, and she decides to sell it to a wig maker to buy Jim a chain for his pocket watch. Meanwhile, Jim sells his pocket watch to buy Della a set of combs for her hair. When they exchange their gifts, they realize what the other has done and how much they truly love each other. The story is a heartwarming tale of sacrifice and love, and Collier's illustrations bring the characters and their emotions to life.THIS 78 PAGE ARTICLE WAS EXTRACTED FROM THE BOOK: Secret of the Ages, by Robert Collier.
